Ek is pas terug van
‘n internasionale Christelike konsultasie in Turkye. Die Protestantse kerke
verteenwoordig sowat 3,000 gelowiges uit ‘n bevolking van meer as 60 miljoen.
Die Arminies-Ortodokse Kerk het sowat 3,500 lidmate, Die Grieks-Ortodokse Kerk
verteenwoordig ‘n klein groepie, hoewel die Patriarg van die Oosters-Ortodokse
Kerk steeds sy setel in Istanbul het – en dit is Turkye se totale Christelike
bevolking.
Een
van die blywendste indrukke is die dinamika onder die Turkse Protestante. Hulle
is in die greep van God se roeping om die evangelie effektief te kommunikeer,
om deur dade van barmhartigheid te dien, om goeie verhoudinge met die owerhede
te handhaaf, om goeie bure vir hul Moslem-landgenote te wees, en lojale burgers
van hulle land.
Dit
is nie maklik om ‘n Protestant in Turkye te wees nie. Daar bestaan nie
wetgewing in terme waarvan ‘n Christelike kerk as ‘n regspersoon kan registreer
nie. Gemeentes kan dus nie as werkgewers optree, wettiglik eiendom besit of
grond vir Christelike godsdiensbeoefening gesoneer kry nie. Waar Turkye tans
aansoek doen vir lidmaatskap van die Europese unie, is ‘n lang lys vergrype
teen Christene tot groot verleentheid van die regering in die verslae aan
lidlande van die Europese Unie opgeneem.
Tog
waarsku Turkse Christene dat baie berigte wat die wêreld ingestuur oor
vervolging van Christene dikwels nie die ware feite verteenwoordig nie. Dieselfde
soort SMS-smeerveldtogte wat ons in Suid-Afrika ken (Nandos!), veroorsaak ook
daar dikwels verleentheid.
Waar
geloof en kerk toenemend in Suid-Afrika na die rand van die openbare lewe
geskuif word, is dit merkwaardig om die vaardighede te sien waaroor hierdie
gemarginaliseerde groep mense beskik. Wanneer ‘n groepie Turkse gelowiges
bymekaarkom, sal daar meestal vir elke gelowige ‘n vriend of familielid
teenwoordig wees wat genooi is om die Christelike geloof te kom ondersoek. ‘n
egte, outentieke lewe van geloof is baie belangrik, sodat die wyse waarop die
Christelike Boek mense vorm ‘n konkrete uitleg van die evangelie kan wees.
Mense kan in Christene sien wat die Christelike geloof impliseer.
Turkye
is sedert WO I in die greep van ‘n verblindende nasionalisme wat ten nouste met
Islam verbind is. Mens kan eintlik per definisie nie ‘n patriot wees as jy nie
‘n Moslem is nie. Christene? Wel dié word sedert die kruistogte per definisie
as imperialiste gesien. Dit is dus ‘n groot krisis wanneer Turke die skuif maak
om hul vertroue in Jesus van Nasaret te plaas. Daarom maak Turkse gelowiges
werk daarvan om goeie verhoudinge – tot op die hoogste vlak – met die regering
op te bou.
Die
Turkse Protestantse is met besonder talentvolle leiers geseën. Hulle skep
video-produksies, skryf Bybelkommentare, het ‘n boek oor Christelike etiek die
lig laat sien, het die volledige Bybel pas weer in vennootskap met die
Internasionale Bybelgenootskap vertaal, lewer hulp in gebiede waar aardbewings
voorkom, het Bybelstudie-kursusse, vertaal teologiese werke in Turks, bedryf
meer as een Bybelkollege – mens kan ‘n lang lys maak. Vanaf Januarie 2006 sal
‘n evangeliese satelliet-TV uitsending vir 8 ure per week in Turks beskikbaar
wees.

For many of us,
the most serious challenge in competent time management is neither finding a
block of time to take a sabbatical nor making the effort to create a healthy
daily schedule on paper. The most serious challenge is adhering to the schedule
we say we have.
The
first element in competent daily self-management is knowing and meeting your
own needs for adequate exercise and rest. An increasing body of medical
research is showing that adults need eight to nine hours of sleep to function
well. Doctors are virtually unanimous that we all need a minimum of 30 minutes'
exercise every day. If we fail in these two simple aspects of self-care, we
will damage our effectiveness in virtually every area of our lives.
I
tend to be an early-to-bed, early-to-rise person. It's relatively easy for me
to get to bed and then get up, exercise, and get to work in the morning. That
may not work for you. You may like to stay up late and hate any activity before
11 a.m. If your natural rhythm is to be a night owl, look for ways to organize
your time to make maximum use of your evenings. For example, you may be a
person who should do your daily devotional reading and prayer at night rather
than subjecting God to your grumpiness in the morning. You might even combine
exercise and devotion. I knew one seminary professor, who happened to be deaf,
who would turn off his hearing aids and walk three miles from his home to and
from campus every day. He accomplished prayer, exercise, and his daily commute
all at the same time. At a minimum, in the context of your own tradition's
practices, it's essential to build in time for your own personal relationship
with God.
The
very nature of pastoral life works against keeping a schedule. The phone is
always ringing. Someone is dropping in. Sudden crises or opportunities can
interrupt the day. It's frighteningly easy to get to the end of a day without
having accomplished anything you intended to do. For me the simple technique of
making a list helped greatly. During my devotional time each morning, I would
jot down those items that I believed needed attention during the day. As each
was attended to, I crossed it off the list. At the end of the day, I carried
over unfinished items to the next day's list. The process gave me a sense of
accomplishment and helped alleviate that feeling of "never being
finished" which often plagues the pastoral life. Simple techniques from
the business world can also be helpful. The One Minute Manager, for
example, offers a number of ideas that can be adapted to the administrative
areas of ministerial life.1
Even
with the best of management, of course, a day or a week will often get away
from you. There's no way to plan for the week when three homebound seniors die
within 36 hours. One key to responsible time management on a continuing basis
comes from managing the time blocks in your week. Think of the week as pastoral
care expert Wayne Oates does in The Minister's Own Mental Health.2
Oates divides the week into 21 periods—morning, afternoon, and evening for each
of the seven days. In a typical 9-to-5, 40-hour job, work would consume 10 of
the 21 periods. Acknowledging that pastors often work when others don't, Oates
suggests that the rule of thumb for a pastor's normal week would be to work no
more than 13 of the 21 periods. If circumstances require you to work 15 of the
21 units in a given week, why not take off an extra two units the next week to
keep your average at 13? Approaching your work week with this kind of sliding
scale both allows the necessary flexibility to deal with situations as they
arise and keeps in mind the goal of adequate rest, recreation, and time with
family and friends. Somebody, sometime, has to mow the lawn, do the laundry,
clean the house, and buy the groceries!
If
you're having trouble getting your schedule under control with Oates's time
blocks, you might find it helpful to look at your time use in smaller
increments. For example, take a two-week period and keep track of every 15
minutes of your time at work. Then take a hard look at how you used that time.
Did you spend excess time talking with others in the office, surfing the Net,
or playing with PowerPoint? How could you discipline yourself to free up more
time for productive work?

Worth the Time!
Good managers
of time tend to know that they do well with scheduling. And poor time managers
tend to know how badly they do. But if you're not sure how well you're doing,
here's a brief quiz to help you think about your time-management skills. Mark
the following statements true or false for you. The more you answer with
"false," the more your time-management skills need a tune-up.

Time management
is not an exact science. Nor is it the same for each person. But good time
management can make the difference between a successful, fulfilling ministry,
and one that seems to splash about aimlessly in the shallows. Most important,
time management is a skill that can be learned, and learning it is worth the
time!

afgehandel en aan die drukkers besorg. Die boek sal op die allerlaatste op

mooi dat gemeentes dit ernstig moet oorweeg om hulle bestelling te vermeerder
sodat dié twee publikasies hulle kommunikasie-rol in die NG Kerk nog beter kan
vervul.
* Die mikpunt vir Kerkbode se Kersfonds is vanjaar op R180 000 gestel. Dié fonds,
wat al sedert 1940 bestaan, se opbrengs word jaarliks aan die kinderhuise van
ons kerk geskenk. Dit help om die finansiële druk wat as gevolg van die
besnoeiing van staatsubsidies ontstaan het effens te verlig. Johann vra
gemeentes om dit asseblief te oorweeg om die kollekte wat by hulle
Kerssangdiens opgeneem word aan dié fonds te skenk. Kerkbode sal dit ook waardeer as leraars die fonds onder hulle
lidmate se aandag kan bring. Die bankbesonderhede van die fonds is:

Algemene Sinode se Taakspan vir Leer en Aktuele
Sake (en Homoseksualiteit)
Dr Ben du Toit is
deur die vorige Algemene Sinode aangewys as die sameroeper vir die Taakspan vir
Leer en Aktuele Sake. Ben verduidelik in ‘n verklaring dat hierdie taakspan
verskillende subspanne aangewys het, bv een vir Gereformeerde Identiteit, vir
Ekonomiese Geregtigheid en dan ook een vir Homoseksualiteit. Elkeen het ‘n
afsonderlike drywer of voorsitter, bv André Bartlett “vir die gay-saak”, soos
Ben dit stel.
Oor
die taakspan vir homoseksualiteit gee Ben die volgende inligting:
“1. Die taakspan bestaan uit 15 lede, wat so verteenwoordigend as
moontlik van alle moontlike posisies in die kerk saamgestel is.
“2. Die eerste volgende byeenkoms waarby almal kon by wees is eers teen
die einde van Januarie 2006.
“3. Daar is ook ‘n verwagting dat hierdie taakspan die gesprek na die
verskillende streke toe sal neem. Daaroor moet die groep nog self besluit by
hierdie eerste vergadering.
“4. Daar het alreeds in die streke ‘n aantal konferensies (of
inligtings-byeenkomste) oor die saak plaasgevind, maar dit was nie op
inisiatief van hierdie taakspan nie.
“5. Die taakspan beskik oor beperkte fondse (daar is weliswaar so pas
aan ons meer geld beskikbaar gestel) wat slegs gemik is op eie
funksionering. Daar is dus nie geld en
kapasiteit om elders konferensies te reël nie.
“6. Indien sinodes (SKLAS’e) die inisiatief wil neem om op plaaslike
vlak ‘n konferensie oor die saak te reël, sal die lede van die taakspan graag
daarvan deel wil uitmaak (of wil saampraat of raadgee indien verlang).
“7. Dit beteken NIE dat daar nie dalk nog een of twee groter
konferensies oor die saak gereël gaan word in die volgende jaar nie, maar
daaroor sal die taakspan SELF moet besluit en daaroor beplan. Indien dit
gebeur, sal die plaaslike kerk daarin geken word en samewerking en inisiatiewe
vanuit daardie sinodale strukture absoluut gehonoreer word.
“8. Daar word dringend van die kerk gevra vir die nodige respek en
sensitiwiteit van die samestelling en funksionering van die taakspan - daarom
is die eerste werkswinkel van begin volgende jaar absoluut belangrik,
waartydens baie dinge vir ons hopelik duideliker sal word - veral wat die pad
vorentoe aanbetref.
“Ek wil dit graag beklemtoon dat ons so ‘n oop
as moontlike proses voorstaan en dat proses-notas deurlopend aan die Moderamen
deurgegee sal word. Ons sal nie ‘n
situasie wil hê waar ons vlak voor die volgende Algemene Sinode eers die
resultaat van die ondersoek bekend maak en sodoende verdere onnodige druk plaas
op die sinode nie.” Bo

Die NG Gemeente
van Loerie het vanjaar die 14de keer ‘n baie suksesvolle Nartjiefees aangebied
wat deur meer as 8000 mense bygewoon is. Deur die jare het ons ‘n baie goeie
infrastruktuur opgebou asook die kundigheid om van so ‘n geleentheid ‘n sukses
te maak.
Die Here was
oor die jare vir ons baie goed en daarom het ons gevoel dat ons hierdie
infrastruktuur en kundigheid wil aanwend om ‘n Gospelfees aan te bied. Dit sal
plaasvind op 1 April 2006. Die lys van
sangers wat sal optree is Innes Benade as sanger en aankondiger, Piet Smit,
Louis Britz, Wanda de Kock-Bam, Frieda Frances.
Ons het besluit
om ‘n onbeperkte getal uitstalruimtes van 3.5m x 3m gratis beskikbaar te stel
aan enige organisasie of persoon wat Christelike dienswerk lewer om hul werk te
kom bekendstel aan die Oos Kaap. Ons
hoop en bid dat hierdie fees sal ontwikkel tot die vertoonvenster van wat in
die Koninkryk van God gedoen word.
Enigiemand wat
dink dat die werk waarmee u of u gemeente of organisasie besig is wyer bekend
gestel moet word, kan ons kontak vir meer besonderhede. Doen asb. ernstig
voorbidding vir hierdie geleentheid.

Have a firm handshake.
Look people in the eye.
Sing in the shower.

Show respect for everyone who works for a
living, regardless of how trivial their job.
Send your loved ones flowers. Think of a
reason later.
Make someone's day by paying the toll for the
person in the car behind you.
Become someone's hero.
Marry only for love.
Count your blessings.
Compliment the meal when you're a guest in
someone's home.
Wave at the children on a school bus.
Remember that 80 per cent of the success in
any job is based on your ability to deal with people.

Piet
and Anna went to the Garies Landbou Skou every year.
Every
year, Piet would ask: "Anna, ek wil bietjie in daai helikopter
vlieg."
And
every year, Anna would answer: "Jong, Piet, daai helikopter vlug kos
vyftig rand. En vyftig rand is vyftig rand!"
One
year, Piet and Anna went to the fair again. Piet said: "Jong, Anna,
vandag is ek 71 jaar oud. As ek nie nou op daardie helikopter klim nie, dan kan
ek maar vergeet."
Anna
replies: "Jong Piet, daai helikopter vlug kos vyftig rand. En vyftig
rand is vyftig rand!"
The
pilot overheard them, and since it was a quiet day, he decided to have some
fun.
"Ek
sê julle wat. Ek neem julle altwee vir 'n rytjie. As julle vir die hele vlug stil
bly, dan is die vlug verniet. So nie, dan betaal julle vyftig rand!"
Piet
and Anna agree to the conditions, and into the chopper they got. The pilot took
off, and did all sorts of rolls, dives, twists, turns and tricks. Not a word
was said. He did all his tricks over again, this time even scaring himself.
Still not a word was said.
They
landed and the pilot turned to Piet: "Deksels! So iets het ek nog
nie gesien nie! Ek het tot myself bang gevlieg, maar julle twee het niks gesê
nie!"
Piet
replied: "Ek wou so graag iets gesê het toe Anna uitgeval het, maar
vyftig rand is vyftig rand!"
